THE BRIEF
An established Bang & Olufsen system carefully serviced and expanded around one of the brand’s most distinctive music sources: the six-disc BeoSound 9000 CD player.
Completed in October 2019, this Camps Bay project began as a service call and developed into a considered upgrade for a client with a genuine passion for physical music. The existing system brought together a BeoVision Avant television, BeoLab 5 loudspeakers, a BeoSound 4 music system, DSTV and Apple TV.
The client also owned an extensively catalogued collection of approximately 3,500 CDs. Rather than leaving that collection disconnected from the main entertainment system, the goal was to integrate a BeoSound 9000 in a way that felt authentic to the room, simple to operate and fully compatible with the established Bang & Olufsen installation.
The Initial Service Visit
Our involvement began when the BeoVision Avant could no longer communicate reliably with the BeoSound 4. Careful fault-finding traced the problem to a failed network switch. Replacing the switch restored communication and confirmed that the core equipment remained capable of delivering the experience the client valued.
That visit also created the opportunity to discuss a long-held request: adding a BeoSound 9000 to the system. For a collection of this scale, the player offered far more than nostalgia. Its vertical six-disc arrangement made music selection immediate, displayed the discs as part of the room and preserved the tactile experience of choosing an album.
Integrating the BeoSound 9000
The Bang & Olufsen BeoSound 9000 was installed on its dedicated floor stand, creating a sculptural focal point while keeping the player conveniently accessible. The installation required more than positioning the product: existing MasterLink cabling had to be relocated and carefully routed to the television position.
The system’s MasterLink/NetworkLink converter was then reconfigured from its former BeoSound 4 setup to recognise and correctly integrate the BeoSound 9000. This bridge between different generations of Bang & Olufsen technology allowed the new source to work as part of the wider system rather than as an isolated player.
BeoVision Avant and Source Configuration
Settings within the BeoVision Avant were adjusted so the revised source arrangement behaved predictably in everyday use. DSTV and Apple TV remained available for television and streaming, while the BeoSound 9000 introduced an elegant dedicated route back to the client’s physical music library.
The work demonstrates the value of understanding both legacy and contemporary AV platforms. Premium equipment does not necessarily need to be replaced when requirements change; with the correct cabling, configuration and interface between generations, it can often remain at the centre of a modern system.
BeoLab 5 Calibration
The installation was completed with calibration of the BeoLab 5 floorstanding loudspeakers. Their active design and built-in acoustic calibration are intended to deliver controlled, powerful performance in the listening room, but correct setup remains essential.
Checking the loudspeaker configuration as part of the wider service ensured that the upgraded source system was supported by equally considered playback. The result was not merely a visually striking collection of Bang & Olufsen products, but a cohesive music and television system designed to perform as one.

The Result
The completed system gave the client an elegant and intuitive way to enjoy an extraordinary CD collection through the existing Bang & Olufsen environment. The BeoSound 9000 became both a practical music source and a design feature, while the carefully serviced network, television and loudspeakers continued to work together as a complete system.
This Camps Bay installation shows how specialist service and thoughtful integration can extend the life of iconic equipment, accommodate changing listening habits and preserve the qualities that made the original system special.
