THE BRIEF
A carefully planned whole-home audio, video and network installation at Pearl Valley Golf Estate.
Mirror Edge Networks worked with a long-standing Bang & Olufsen client from the early stages of this new residence, beginning discussions in 2016 and remaining involved as the home took shape over the following two years.
The brief extended well beyond individual televisions or music systems. The house required dependable connectivity, provision for fibre, centralised audio and video equipment, intuitive room-by-room control and the successful integration of the client’s existing Bang & Olufsen collection.
Planning the technology around the home
Early involvement made it possible to consider the technology as part of the house rather than as an addition after construction. Network cabling, Wi-Fi coverage, audiovisual distribution and equipment locations could all be coordinated before the rooms were completed.
This approach is especially valuable in a large residence. It creates a reliable foundation, reduces visible equipment in the living spaces and leaves sensible access for future servicing and upgrades.
A dependable home network and Wi-Fi foundation
The network was treated as essential infrastructure. Provision was made for the incoming fibre service, wired connections and high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the property, providing the foundation required by the home’s entertainment and control systems.
An Araknis router, network switch and wireless equipment were installed as part of the original solution. The project demonstrates why a professionally designed home network and Wi-Fi system matters: televisions, streaming sources, control processors and everyday devices all depend on stable connectivity.
Centralised equipment, discreetly installed
Audio, video and network equipment was consolidated in a wall-mounted rack in the garage. This keeps source devices and technical hardware away from day-to-day living areas while maintaining the space and access required for practical servicing.
The rack brought together the high-definition video matrix, DStv decoders, Apple TV devices, Crestron control processor, Araknis network hardware, network-controlled power distribution and the Anthem surround receiver serving the lounge.
Centralising these components also gives the installation a clear, organised structure. Sources can be shared where required, equipment remains accessible and the rooms themselves retain a cleaner architectural finish.
Simple control in every room
Although the system behind the scenes is extensive, the daily experience was designed to remain straightforward. Crestron handheld remotes were provided for the television rooms, creating a consistent method of selecting sources and operating the installed AV equipment.
This was one of the two central principles of the project: sophisticated infrastructure should not make the home complicated to use. A well-resolved integrated home-control system should conceal technical complexity and present the household with clear, familiar controls.
Bang & Olufsen throughout the residence
The client’s existing Bang & Olufsen equipment was carefully incorporated throughout the new home. High-definition and Ultra HD televisions were installed in the principal rooms, with the wider distribution system allowing central sources to be enjoyed around the property.
A distinctive part of the design is the way audio from the Bang & Olufsen CD player and digital music player can be made available through the televisions. This is particularly effective in rooms where Bang & Olufsen loudspeakers are connected to Bang & Olufsen televisions, allowing the client’s established collection to remain a meaningful part of the completed system.
The lounge entertainment system
The lounge forms a showcase within the wider installation. A Bang & Olufsen BeoSound 9000 provides a music source for the home, while Bang & Olufsen floor-standing loudspeakers are driven by an Anthem MRX 1120 surround receiver.
The room was also prepared for Dolby Atmos expansion once the client had settled into the house. That provision reflects a broader principle followed throughout the project: install the right infrastructure during construction so that the system can evolve without unnecessary disruption later.
Remote visibility and support
The installation included a network-controlled power distribution unit and remote management through the Araknis OvrC platform. This gave Mirror Edge Networks useful visibility into the system and the ability to perform selected diagnostics or controlled reboots remotely.
Remote access does not replace on-site service where physical work is required, but it can shorten fault-finding time and resolve certain issues without waiting for a visit. For a comprehensive installation, that ongoing support capability is an important part of the design.
The result
The completed Pearl Valley residence brings networking, video distribution, music, television and control together as one coordinated system. Extensive technical equipment remains discreetly centralised, while the rooms are straightforward to operate and the client’s Bang & Olufsen collection is integrated throughout the home.
It is a strong example of how early planning, organised infrastructure and considered integration can make substantial residential technology feel calm, dependable and easy to live with.
