A comprehensive Control4 refit for a five-bedroom villa at Clifton Terraces.
Mirror Edge Networks was appointed by the developer of this exceptional Clifton apartment building to review, refit and upgrade the existing home automation system before Villa 602 was offered for sale. The objective was to bring the property’s lighting, climate, safety and entertainment systems together through one dependable, easy-to-use platform.
At the centre of the solution is Control4 home automation, giving the future owner a consistent way to interact with the technology throughout the five-bedroom residence.
Updating a sophisticated home
Refitting an existing automation system requires a different approach from starting with a blank canvas. The first priority is to understand the installed infrastructure, identify what can be retained and establish where upgrades or reconfiguration are required.
For Villa 602, the work involved multiple connected disciplines rather than a single isolated system. Every element needed to operate reliably in its own right while also contributing to a coherent experience across the property.
Control4 as the central interface
Control4 provides the unifying layer for the villa. Instead of asking the owner to manage separate controls for each technology, the system presents key functions through familiar Control4 touch panels.
This centralised approach makes a large residence easier to live with. Lighting, temperature, entertainment and selected safety functions can be accessed from a consistent interface, reducing complexity without limiting the capabilities available behind the scenes.
Integrated lighting control
The villa includes an extensive Lutron lighting system interfaced with Control4. It covers indoor track lighting, LED strips, downlights, chandeliers and bedside pendant lights, as well as low-level safety lighting in stairwells and walkways.
Outdoor lighting forms part of the same considered scheme. Pergola lighting, deck lighting, garden accents and garden spotlights can be coordinated with the wider home, helping the architecture and landscaping feel connected after dark.
Bringing these circuits into the automation system allows the owner to control individual areas or use grouped lighting scenes suited to everyday living and entertaining.
Comfort and climate control
Underfloor heating and air-conditioning are also integrated into the system, including on/off and temperature control. This gives the owner convenient access to the villa’s comfort settings from the same Control4 environment used for the rest of the home.
In a multi-level property with several bedrooms and living areas, this consistent control is valuable. It makes it easier to adjust the relevant space without navigating a collection of unrelated wall controls or manufacturer interfaces.
Safety information where it is useful
The existing alarm and fire-detection systems were incorporated into the Control4 experience. The alarm can be activated or deactivated from authorised Control4 touch panels, while alarm and fire-system notifications can be displayed on those panels.
This does not replace the dedicated safety systems. It gives the occupants clearer visibility of important information through the interface they already use around the home.
Multiroom audio and video readiness
A multiroom audio system extends music through the interior and to the outdoor entertainment areas. Control from the wider automation platform keeps listening straightforward, whether music is required in one area or across several spaces.
The villa was also cabled for video distribution. That structured preparation gives the property a sound foundation for centrally managed television and source equipment, while keeping future options open as the owner’s requirements evolve.
A careful refit, not simply a replacement
The project demonstrates the value of approaching an existing smart home as a complete system. Effective upgrade work depends on tracing infrastructure, testing communication between technologies, refining programming and ensuring that the finished controls make sense to a new owner.
